1030 AM:
Got the bus to Burgos this morning. Rode with Charlie, who is on the Camino with his wife, Annette. We slept in adjacent bunks in Belorado last night. Charlie has a rib injury and rode ahead to Burgos to wait for Annette. We had an adventure finding the bus station, but got to it in time to catch it and be in Burgos by 10.
Though the approach is legendarily ugly, the center of Burgos is stunning.
The gate over the old moat and into the Cathedral square was lit in the morning sun. What a welcome.
And the cathedral is no slouch, either.
I inched past the cathedral in search of my Hostal, only to find it closed til 1. Nowhere to leave my pack. I'm stopping for coffee and breakfast, evaluating what to do that doesn't aggravate my leg. There is a podiatrist nearby who has seen drop-in Camino patients before. I think I'll try my luck there. Maybe I'll get lucky with a consult and be able to stash my bag for a short limp back to the cathedral to collect my stamp and visit its legendary interior.
I'll update as the day progresses. It's an interesting day of re-evaluation. I'm keeping open to the possibilities and feel ok about whatever comes next. It's all part of the Way.
2 PM:
Podiatrist was closed today. I went to the tourism bureau which directed me to a private hospital a few km away. I walked there slowly along the river and was seen within 15 minutes of checking in.
Doctor was very nice. Confirmed tendinitis (it was pretty clear by then just by how it looked) and prescribed meds, ice and rest. The meds and rest are no problem, but finding ice is an adventure. My Hostal has no fridge, kitchen or bar, so I will have to be resourceful (with no Spanish) in accomplishing this 3x/day.
For now, I'm just relieved to be here with my leg up, knowing that there is still a possibility of continuing. And if not, then I'll have 4 weeks to do something unplanned.
Open mind, open heart.
I've just joined again after a couple of days absence to catch up on your travels and sorry to read of your injury. Dang. Sounds so painful but glad you found a doc. Disappointing though this might be, it seems to me that you've already allowed yourself to accept The Way. This is your journey, remember - not a race. As much a mental as a physical pilgrimage. Your heart is already full. I'll read the next few entries and see where you are and what you're considering. You've managed to take some incredible photographs and capture that breathtaking light that has glow to it that plein air painters so love! Big hugs.😘
